About Me, Deby
In the year 2000 I came to Buenos Aires for the first time to dance Argentine Tango. I fell in love not only with the tango, but with Buenos Aires and the Argentine culture. I made 16 trips in 4 years before I came to live permanently in Argentina.
In 2004 a friend of mine was dying of brain and lung cancer. He made me see how short our lives really are. If we do not take the opportunity to do what is we really want to do, we may never have the time do so. After his death, I sold everything I owned to move to Buenos Aires. I have never regretted it.
I came with my dog Roxie, (who has since died) my tango shoes, my computer, and my grandma's dishes. I had few expectations except to create a new life much different from the one I had before. Argentina was all about relationships and people. My old life was all about business and material posessions.
It is not easy to change your country. I am now bilingual. I have had to learn a new cultural and adapt to it. It has not been all about dancing tango. It has been about making a new life. I have learned what it is like to be an immigrant. I never imagined myself to be in the same situations as friends of mine who came to the United States. An immigrant is an immigrant regardless of the country or who you are. It has been and continues to be an amazing lesson.
In my short time here I opened my Bed and Breakfast, I taught tango, danced in shows and events, I teach English, and have worked as a tour guide. I now have a new passion. I started a small clothing company. I am designing women's clothing and manufacturing them. I combine my two cultures to create a completely different look. Moving to Argentina has given me a new life very different from my old life in IT.
I still love having guests in my apartment. It gives me an opportunity to meet people from all over the world. It is fun to introduce people to my Buenos Aires. Whether you are coming for Tango, to experience Argentina, or for business, I know I can give you another view of my new home.
My apartment is non-smoking and I live with "un equipo de demonios". I now have a new dog and a cat. Maximiliana, (the dog) and JerryBrown (the cat) and I would love to have you stay with us. Please come visit us. We would like to be your family in Buenos Aires.
